Autos industry week connected the students with multiple employers

The first week at college will be a memorable one for our Automotive students. They’ve had a different event every day to really excite them for the year ahead and allow them to start thinking about the career outcomes this course could result in. We went along to talk to the staff, students and visitors throughout the week, these are the highlights. Monday 12 September  On the student’s first day back, they attended a touring car talk. The students learnt all about the ins and outs of the vehicle and the team and work that goes on behind the scenes of each and every race. Watch our TikTok here!

Wednesday 14 September  Milwaukee tools and Halfords trade came along to exhibit their range of power tools and hand tools. This was to show students the different tools and products they might be working on within the industry and what they are used for and why. The students were able to talk to the employers about their products and the benefits of each company and the perks they provide for those in the trade. Steve spoke to us from Halfords about the tools they stock for trade professionals. Steve said: “I’m the northern trade manager for Halfords. We promote tools for Halfords for trade professionals. We sign people up for the trade card that gives them a variety of percentages off tools and various other products in the store. We also give them discounts for Halfords Auto Centres. We offer a lifetime guarantee on the tool range, so any hand tools with an advanced name on them, are lifetime guaranteed. We also offer the full range of EV tools now for electric or hybrid vehicles. We also do a price comparison so they can see what they can save with the trade card, which is substantial.” Milwaukee Tools UK joined us at college to exhibit the range of products they have in the automotive industry. They said: “Milwaukee provides a wide range of power tools across all sorts of industries, covering all sorts of trades. We are here today to focus on the automotive sector and talk about the range of power tools, M12 and M18 that we have for all the solutions that will be needed in the industry. We also have an extensive range of hand tools and accessories that can be used alongside our power tools when working on the job site.” Thursday 15 September  What a success. Over 20 vintage and new cars joined us for our car show at Lockoford Lane. From reliable robins to yellow mustangs, the students got to experience it all. The exhibitors and enthusiasts came from around the country to the college to exhibit their cars and speak to the students and the community about their motors. A lot of the cars had been altered and worked on to improve the drive, the appearance or the comfort for the owner. It was interesting to hear how the owners had done this and see the finished product.
